All the towns in Thayer County are within 12 miles of Highway 81, a major north-south 4 lane highway.  Thayer county is also about 50 miles south of Interstate 80 (east-west from San Francisco to Teaneck NJ).  Interstate 70 is less than 80 miles south from Chester.  Union Pacific runs a dual line service straight through Thayer County to the major hub in North Platte, Nebraska.
